Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) is pleased to announce the full commercial service commencement of its two high-power satellites, HOTBIRD 13F and HOTBIRD 13G. Positioned at Eutelsat’s flagship video neighborhood at 13° East, these satellites are significantly enhancing the broadcasting quality for approximately nine hundred television channels, reaching over 160 million households across Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. These state-of-the-art satellites introduce advanced capabilities to the 13° East orbital location, such as in-orbit redundancy and uplink signal protection.

The HOTBIRD video neighborhood is home to seven premium TV platforms, boasting over 600 pay-TV channels, 300 free-to-air channels, and 500 HDTV and UHD channels. With its expansive pan-European coverage, HOTBIRD alone reaches 130 million households within Europe. These satellites also distribute TV channels to 90% of cable and IPTV operators across Europe and the MENA region, establishing 13° East as a leading provider for DTH, cable, IP, and DTT services in the region. Following their entry into service, HOTBIRD 13F and HOTBIRD 13G are enabling three previously stationed satellites at 13° East to undertake new missions.

Manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space, these satellites are built upon the new-generation Eurostar Neo telecommunications satellite platform, developed under an ESA partnership project with Airbus aimed at fostering innovation and competitiveness within the European space industry.

Notably, HOTBIRD 13G hosts the EGNOS GEO-4 payload, affiliated with the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA). This payload has been fully operational since June, delivering reliable and secure space-based services and offering additional satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) capabilities within and beyond the European Union.

Laurence Delpy, General Manager for the Video Business Unit, expressed their delight, “EUTELSAT HOTBIRD 13F and HOTBIRD 13G are now in service. 13° East is one of Eutelsat’s longstanding and prominent orbital locations, contributing to audience growth for broadcasters since 1983. Satellites play an essential role in the media supply chain, especially in supporting the live transmission of major news and sporting events. Our clients across Europe and MENA can expect an even better service with these powerful new satellites.”
